Alliance to Save90 update – save the date!

On February 4, 2012, Nathan Winograd, author, speaker and founder of the No Kill Advocacy Center, spoke before an appreciative crowd of hundreds in Tampa, explaining in clear language how dozens of communities across the country, large and small, urban and rural, affluent and less-than-affluent, are creating no-kill shelters. His presentation was informative and entertaining, inspiring and empowering. Many in attendance left his presentation with renewed energy and inspiration to achieve no-kill in Hillsborough County. Read a summary of the event on our blog.

Alliance to Save 90 has been created to work toward the goal of creating a no-kill community in Hillsborough County. Sign up to attend our monthly meetings here.

200 cats fixed at ACT’s neuter-a-thon!

This year, nearly 200 cats were fixed at this annual event. ACT’s Neuter-a-thon is a local event in recognition and celebration of the Humane Society of the United States’ (HSUS) National Spay Day.

The winner of the Neuter-a-thon prize was Carol Meyers and her cat, Big Head. She received a $100 gift certificate to ACT. This worked out really well for Carol, as she has 2 more cats that need to be fixed.

Today is our birthday!

On March 12, 2012, ACT celebrates its 6th birthday! We’ve really grown.

In fact:

  • The clinic will celebrate its 60,000th surgery during its 6th birthday month in March, 2012.
  • The 10,000th feral SpayDay cat was fixed on January 8th, 2012 in the ACT Clinic.
  • ACT has performed 59,792 surgeries over the past 6 years.
  • Until space restraints kicked in last year, ACT has grown by an average of 30% a year.
  • Until we move to the bigger facility, ACT’s growth is at its maximum.

"We've had our home for 6 years -- we think we'll stay."
